The main purpose of this blog is to help teachers to understand that they don't have to be technical wizards to have their students create videos.

Thanks, Nikos, for the amazingly quick and personal response! It would be very helpful to start a discussion about EQUIPMENT for use in schools (what works and what doesn't, what is absolutely needed and what is not to produce good quality films) and
I believe that this group will have much to offer in advice. Should I try to "add the Equipment group" and start the discussion? Yes, Alaska is a great place with rich culture; it is a great place to live and teach. You should try to make…

It’s a curious thing this absorption of social media into our lives and into our classrooms. On one hand, there are now more reasons to remain glued to our laptops, tablets and phones as we check out the latest blog, update and tweet. These acts distract us, even for a moment, from being present with each other physically and replace human contact with screens. Nikos Theodosakis said… Hey Chad, welcome to the site and to the community. Love hearing your passion for bringing filmmaking into the classroom! - I was in Anchorage a few times with ASTE and always excited at the possibilities of helping students connect with their Alaskan culture through filmmaking, especially in remote and native areas, where language and culture are eroding so methodically, just ike Sismarish Island!
I don't have an equipment TAB on our site, sounds like I should put one up, in the meantime, perhaps you can start a group on our group section and invite some discussion on the best equipment for 2012! iF this sounds too daunting, I'll give you a hand and we'll start a separate page. Either way, we'll do our best to give you a hand. Also, I have a post coming this month on Lighting in the Classroom, as well as some other tools. Also, check out the Preserving Your Culture section, which may be a great way to incorporate culture and Spanish through digital media. ok,
